Paralleling Dissimilar Generators: Part 3 – Load Sharing Compatibility

چکیده

Generator sets cannot operate in a stable fashion in parallel with other sources unless the loading on the generator set is controlled. When generator sets are operating together on an isolated bus (that is, not grid-paralleled), they are commonly provided with equipment to allow each machine to operate at the same percentage of load as the percentage of load on the total system. This is termed a “load sharing control system.” Many options are available for load sharing controls from various manufacturers, and many of these options are not compatible with each other. So, when considering the paralleling of dissimilar generator sets, or adding generator sets to an existing paralleling system, it is critical to understand how load sharing can be accomplished. Load sharing factors

Paralleling Dissimilar Generators: Part 2 – Compatible Alternators

Paralleled alternators are compatible if they can operate in parallel without having damaging or disruptive neutral currents flowing between them. The magnitude of neutral current flow related to the dissimilarity between paralleled sets depends upon the shape of their voltage waveforms. Depending on the generators’ temperature rise characteristics, age and insulating ratings, neutral current f...

Accurate power sharing for parallel DGs in microgrid with various-type loads

Microgrids are nowadays used to produce electric energy with more efficiency and advantage. However, the use of microgrids presents some challenges. One of the main problems of the microgrids widely used in electrical power systems is the control of voltage, frequency and load sharing balance among inverter- based distributed generators (DGs) in islanded mode. Droop method performance degra...

Paralleling Power Choosing and Applying the Best Technique for Load Sharing

Redundant and distributed power systems often invoke the need to parallel power stages for a variety of reasons, among them enhanced reliability, enabling the use of standardized designs with varying loads, distributing heat sources, and for improved maintainability. However, paralleling usually requires load sharing to equalize stresses, and while many techniques have been used, there are many...

Loading Considerations When Paralleling Transformers

Introduction This application guide addresses the limiting conditions of connecting transformers in parallel and loading considerations when turn ratios, impedances, and kVA ratings are different. Most transformers installed in parallel have the same kVA, turn ratios, and impedances, which can make it difficult for power engineers in industrial and commercial facilities to understand circulatin...
